FANTASIA/2000 -The IMAXExperience
Jan. 1-April 30
The Maryland Science (enter is one of 75 select IMAX
theaters in the United States and abroad debuting this version
of the Disney classic. FANTASIA/2000 includes seven brand new
selections and one returning favorite (The Sorcerer's
Apprentice) from the original Fantasia, released in 1940. It is
a feast for the senses as you watch the animated characters of
Disney Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck among them accompanied by
the brilliant compositions of Beethoven, Stravinsky mid Gershwln
Each of the segments offers something a little different -
there's traditional animation, computer animation, hand-painted
water colors, pastel crayons and everything from abstract images
to classic Disney characters. FANTASIA/2000 is the first
theatrical full-length animated feature issued in IMAX's 15/70
film format and released in 2D The MSC is the only IMAX theater
offering FANTASIA/2000 between New York City and Richmond, VA

Africa's Elephant Kingdom May 12-
Sept 4
Go on safari with the largest animals on Earth,
thundering across the world's largest movie screen. Marvel at the size
and scope of these massive creatures as tall as a one story house, with
ears up to four feet wide, tusks as long as 10 feet, the trunk alone
weighing 300 pounds. Up close, we enter the lives of a single clan our
touchstone as we journey with them in a world of wonder. .Experience
their extraordinary capacity, their complicated social and family
structure. Witness the boundless curiosity of a baby elephant as it
interacts with the world for the first time.
Backyard Monsters Feb 12-May 29
Come face to face with 20 foot robotic figures up
to 96 times the normal size of a real-life tarantula,
two battling beetles, a paper wasp, caterpillar, monarch butterfly
and two suspended static dragonflies. A lively exhibit featuring
in dramatic format the insects and critters you find underfoot or
on your picnic blanket! These itsy-bitsy bugs aren't so little.
Venture inside for a creepy-crawly adventure and a bird's eye view
of a bug's life.
Planetarium Millennium in Space thru Feb 27
Explore the greatest advances in space science and
astronomy over the last millennium and get a sneak peak into the next.
What new changes will we see; in our exploration of space? When will we
return to the Moon or set foot on Mars? Speculate how these and other
cosmic milestones shape the way We view the universe and our place
within it.
Follow the Drinking Gourd Jan 8-Feb 27
Chronicle the history, struggles and the triumph of
the slaves on the road to freedom. Narrated by Andre Braugher, who
played Detective Frank Pembleton on the hit television show, Homicide,
along with real-life and on-screen wife, actress Ami Brabson. Follow the
Drinking Gourd: Stars of Freedom is an in-depth examination of the role
the North Star and night sky played during times of slavery and the
often-tumultuous quest for emancipation (Runs with Millennium in Space
during this time in celebration of Black History Month)
The Violent Sun - March 4-Oct 1
Spotlights tile flew hot mass at the Center of our
universe and the approaching solar maximum. Delve into the Sun's
super hot interior to discover the source of its energy and
investigate the sunspots, flares and prominences of its surface.
Explore the Sun's activity cycles and how they influence the
Earth's environment. Learn how we use our knowledge of the Sun to
uncover information about the distant stars and the universe
Crosby Ramsev Memorial Observatory
Stargazing Thursdays
A weekly offering in the newly renovated rooftop
observatory. Visitors can look to the night skies in a historic 1920s
Alvan Clark and Sons telescope. Sky watchers will be able to observe
planets, comets and eclipses of the Sun and Moon. 5:30-9 p m Free. For

Sungazing Sundays
An extension of the popular night sky viewing,
Sungazing Sundays gives viewers a new opportunity to safely view the Sun
using specialized filters. (11 am.- 4 pm.)

by in famous Spiderman! Meet the legend -- and bring your camera
-- he'll sign autographs and pose for souvenir photos while he' s

"Love Bug" and wear home stylish bug tattoos (Noon 6

Entomologists from Carrie Marry Insect Museum
invite visitors to explore the secrets of their trade. See real-Iife
tarantulas and other insect wonders. Venture into the world of
honey-making and hear more about the creepy-crawly world of
real-life bugs (1-4 pm.)

Flower Power: How Does Your Garden Grow?
Bugs that are good for the garden and gardens that
are good for them! Those known for their green thumbs will inspire
those ready for their spring plantings. Kids can become
kinder-gardeners as they get a jump start on how to pursue one of
the most popular pastimes ever! Participants young and older
can lean how to plant flowers that attract beautiful butterflies,
control weeds and pests and test soil for optimum performance.
